Canadian Dreamland

In December I received an email from Bill, the owner of Revision Skis. The email asked if I would be interested in joining the company’s athletes on a trip in British Columbia in the spring. Like a middle school kid getting a text form his crush, I didn’t want to respond too soon and come off too strong, so I let the email sit in my inbox… for about five minutes. I gave him the obvious answer of YES, and things went from there.

I’m a full time student here in Washington, so I was already trying to figure out how I would be able to skip a whole week of class to go on this trip, but lucky enough for me, the trip dates fell over the week of my spring break.

My luck didn’t stop there, after nearly having to cancel the trip due to low snow, we received nearly three feet of snow the night we arrived at the lodge. With all the new snow, myself, Sandy Boville, Tobias Sedlacek, Ian Hamilton and filmer Mike Kvackay had a killer time with the entire Fernie Wilderness Adventures cat operation to ourselves.

Mt. Rainier Winter

This winter has been an interesting one to say the least. High snow levels and high temperatures have closed pretty much every ski area here in the northwest, so we have been forced up to the higher elevation volcanoes. Here’s a small article I wrote for Newschoolers.com about our winter if you want to read about it in more detail: http://www.newschoolers.com/membernewsread/Where-Winter

Mt. Rainier is about 2 hours from my house in Tacoma, it’s hard to miss on a clear day due to its prominence over other peaks in the area, and has some of the most accessible snow in the state all year. With most of the runs pictured only a  couple hour skin up from the Paradise Visitor Center. Consequently, about half of my days shooting this year have been on Rainer. Rainier and the other Cascades volcanoes are unique to the Northwest, providing fun skiing and amazing views.  I’m starting to save some of my favorite shots for a longer term project, but here are some of my favorites!

A lot of Washingtonians have had the same idea

Utah 1/11-15/15

Long story short, Utah has been amazing.
I’ve been working my way back from Boulder to Washington, taking a couple day break in the road trip here in Utah. I could not have timed this trip any more perfectly; it snowed about a foot and a half on Monday, the day after I got in, and it has been sunny ever since.

I started the week off with an awesome day inbounds at Alta with a crew of local guys I’ve been staying with, including one dude who is shipping out to Europe tomorrow for the Freeride World Tour. Needless to say, they all rip, and it was a killer day on one of the best mountains I’ve had the chance to ski.
Next up was a jump build in one of the legendary backcountry spots in all of skiing, Grizzly Gulch. Just next to Alta, Grizzly has seen some all-time skiing moments (including Tanner Hall’s famous broken ankles on Chad’s Gap) we had a super mellow day with a fun crew.
And finally today, I got to take some fun little laps in the still-shaded areas of Grizzly that still held some great snow.

Until next time Utah!
